{"id":2021,"date":"2023-08-14T11:46:55","date_gmt":"2023-08-14T16:46:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/betterstreetsmb.com\/bsmb\/?p=2021"},"modified":"2023-08-21T13:05:44","modified_gmt":"2023-08-21T18:05:44","slug":"improved-bicycle-lanes-coming-to-the-macarthur-causeway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/betterstreetsmb.com\/bsmb\/improved-bicycle-lanes-coming-to-the-macarthur-causeway\/","title":{"rendered":"Improved Bicycle Lanes Coming to the MacArthur Causeway"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Florida Department of Transportation has begun a long-planned <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fdotmiamidade.com\/current-projects\/beaches\/sr-a1a-macarthur-cswy-from-sr-5usbiscayne-blvd-to-sr-997alton-rd-1.html\">project<\/a> that will improve the bicycle lanes for 2.5 miles along the MacArthur Causeway, linking downtown Miami with Miami Beach&#8217;s South Beach neighborhood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the lanes will continue to be unprotected, they are being upgraded with the following improvements:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A 3-foot painted buffer<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Over 1,000 3-foot tall tubular markers placed at 20-foot intervals<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Continuation of the bicycle lane through the Jungle Island interchange<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Florida Department of Transportation District 6 leadership stated in May at a Miami Beach Town Hall that a more hardened barrier is planned for the causeway. That is scheduled for construction in 2028.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, most people traveling on bicycle and micromobility devices (such as eScooters) utilize the protected Venetian Causeway bicycle lanes.
