We believe that removing these bulb outs would not only jeopardize the safety of pedestrians, but it would also send a message that the city is not committed to pedestrian safety. The nearby area has North Beach Elementary School, numerous religious intuitions, and a significant population that relies on walking, not only on the Sabbath but also throughout the week.\u00a0 Furthermore, the City Administration has recommend <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>against<\/strong><\/span> their removal. The lack of input from the surrounding community is very concerning. I would like to kindly present my perspective on the importance of pedestrian curb extensions and how they contribute to the safety of the community.\n\nCurb extensions serve a vital purpose in urban planning and public safety, and they are considered an essential item in the National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO) toolkit. They are designed to increase the visibility of pedestrians, shorten crossing distances, and slow down traffic,  making streets safer for those who walk. Many residents in the community rely on walking as a primary mode of transportation, and these curb extensions play a critical role in protecting them.\n\nNearby North Beach Elementary School and religious institutions in the neighborhood further underscores the importance of maintaining these pedestrian safety measures. The areas surrounding schools and places of worship tend to have higher foot traffic, with children and families often walking to and from these locations. Removing the curb extensions could put these vulnerable community members at greater risk.\n\nThe city administration is not in favor of removing the bulb outs, and there are good reasons for their opposition. I understand that improving traffic flow is your goal, but I am concerned that there has been no community outreach or polling of residents on this issue, which typically occurs when implementing traffic calming measures.
