Data provided by Miami Beach’s bike share provider, CitiBike Miami, shows the system logged 32,000 rides during the three-day weekend, from Friday through Sunday on Miami Beach. According to Colby Reese, co-founder of the company, this marks an all-time high for usage.
With traffic-clogged streets during Art Week, bikes proved to be a viable option for traveling between fairs and events, offering a quick and stress-free way to get around. Riders were able to skip expensive ride-shares and gridlocked streets for these relatively short distances.
Miami Beach’s system has approximately 1,000 bicycles deployed across South, Mid, and North Beach. Additionally, last year, Miami Beach approved a 5-year contract extension that includes a first-of-its-kind benefit – up to three no-charge rides for residents, per month.
This innovative program, when implemented, will be a welcome addition to the mobility options for residents, introducing even more people to the practical utility of bikes and micromobility for transportation on Miami Beach. Each bike ride replaces a potential car trip, helping reduce congestion and improve traffic flow for everyone on Miami Beach’s streets.
